Hernani Wilderness Hut
Property ID: 230457
This “off the grid” property is a very rare and special offering. It’s one of the last privately owned pieces of land on a travelling stock route in NSW. This is the only small rural holding under 100 acres for sale in the entire area.
This 1/4 acre block is completely private, fully fenced and set in the mountains. It is situated between two 1,000 acre farms on either side. All rural land in this area must be a min of 100 acres, so owning a quarter of an acre block means you get to enjoy everyone else’s farms without the upkeep.
If you’re looking for a small easy to manage bush retreat away from the crowds then this property is perfect.
Our hut is located on the National Trail which stretches from Cape York to the Mornington Peninsula, making it the longest uninterrupted hiking trail in the Southern Hemisphere.
Our section of the TSR ( travelling stock route is aprox 5km in length from our front gate to the back lane and aprox 70-130m wide)
This hut is simple, yet it has everything you need to live off grid. A nice reminder that the best things in life are often the simplest.
The hut is fully insulated, keeping you cool in summer and cosy in winter.
The hut is open plan other than the front room, which has a glass door to close off to the rest of the hut. There are 4 queen sized beds that are built in and a loft for children to sleep in. The beds can be used as beds or day beds. The loft sits above the back bedroom and has a queen futon and single mattress for kids to enjoy.
It has 5 rain tanks storing 31,000 litres of water. A grey and black water septic system, flushing toilet, bathtub and shower.
There is a slow combustion fireplace in the front room, a 1920’s working slow combustion stove and oven cooker in the main space, a twin gas system for cooking on a separate twin gas hot plate, a solar hot water system on the roof with a hybrid wetback for winter and solar system to run our lights. The hut has an inverter to charge phones and laptops.
It has gravity fed water with a fire pump to pump up to the header tank, an outdoor flushing toilet, septic tanks for both black and grey water and a grease trap.
The outhouse is separate to the hut, country style for privacy, one side has a separate flushing toilet and the other side has a bath and shower and sink.
There is a large outdoor bonfire area, outdoor sink and plenty of room for camping. The hut is surrounded by a 100 year old orchard of pears, nectarines, plums and cherries that are abundant when in season.
There is a separate lockable storage shed at the back of the property to keep supplies.
The hut is a nature lovers paradise, within 20 min drive of the three surrounds parks including; The New England National Park, The Guy Fawkes and Mount Highland State forest for hiking and horse riding and plenty of beautiful fresh water streams for trout fishing. In summer we have many secluded fresh water swimming holes and waterfalls to enjoy.
The hut is completely private with 360 degree views to enjoy the incredible sunrises and sunsets and magical night skies. There is so much local wildlife, such as kangaroos, wombats and bird life is abundant.
There are three beautiful billabongs on the TSR which support the native wildlife.
If you would like to buy it furnished there will be an additional cost to be negotiated and I will remove the few items that are no for sale.
Our Hernani hut has been enjoyed by many as holiday accommodation, for the last 15 years, so if you would like to “try before you buy” feel free to book it for a weekend away and experience it for yourself. Book via www.weilhouseliving.com.au
The hut is located 10 min from Ebor for fuel and supplies, 30 min to Dorrigo, 1 hr from Armidale and Grafton and 1 hr from Bellingen.
If you’re a writer or an artist or a hiker or just someone who loves nature and would like some piece and quiet curled up by the fire with a glass of red and a good book, then you’ll really appreciate what I have built here. It’s a very special place in a beautiful part of the world.
